Joseph Vecchio

President & Founder

Joseph Vecchio, CPA, CFP®, MBA

Joe founded Shore Financial Planning in 2018 to offer fee-only, comprehensive financial planning services to people who need financial advice, not financial products. From his years on Wall Street, Joe recognizes that the financial services industry is broken. Financial salespeople are motivated by quotas, product sales, and commission-based income rather than the well-being of their clients. Joe takes pride in protecting people from financial predators and helping them make smart financial decisions. He provides peace of mind through conflict-free, value-added financial and tax advice.

Joe’s professional life started in accounting where he earned his Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license. Accounting created the professional and business foundation that taught him the value of understanding and communicating in the international language of business: accounting.

In 1998, Joe began his investment career as a professional trader and money manager. During his years on Wall Street, the keys to his success were his abilities to manage risk, analyze markets and companies, and continually adapt his trading strategies to technological, competitive, and regulatory pressures.

While working as a professional trader, Joe earned his Master of Business Administration from Montclair State University and passed the Certified Financial Planner™ exam. His 25+ years as an insider cemented his belief that Wall Street and insurance companies intentionally make finance and investing confusing in order to sell high-expense commission products that favor themselves over people. He saw that the stock-picking culture CNBC promotes merely serves the best interest of CNBC and its Wall Street friends. After structural costs and behavioral costs, the net result of active investors/traders falls far short of passive investment returns.

Joe believes in evidence-based portfolio management that is founded on Nobel Prize-winning academic evidence, which is overwhelmingly in favor of passive investors. Those who accept market returns have performed meaningfully better on average than active investors who try to outperform the markets.

Joe lives in Monmouth Beach, NJ, with his wonderful wife, Colleen, three beautiful girls, Grace, Morgan, and Riley, and three loving dogs. He enjoys striper fishing, Texas Hold’em, college football, and caring for his saltwater reef aquarium and koi pond. He is an active member of his church, serves on the local board of education in Monmouth Beach, and provides pro bono financial and tax services to people in need.

Joe has dedicated his professional career to the finance and accounting professions for the past 25 years, continually enhancing his skills and credentials through rigorous ongoing continuing education. He is an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional
